Independence Day

Other than the birth of our lord Jesus Christ and his resurrection, the birth of The United States of America has to be the best thing that has ever happened to mankind. Everybody on Earth should celebrate Independence Day, it was the day that the blueprint for freedom was created. The founding fathers of our country had the bravery and audacity to create this wonderful country on principles that had never been tried. They are heroes, not only for writing the Declaration of Independence but for doing it in the face of the world super power of the time. Their valor is celebrated today 233 years later. I wish I could bring them all back for a week from the dead and show them what they created and what we have done since. I think they would be proud. God Bless America!

The Declaration of Independence has the most profound phrase known to man.

"We Hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

    Happy Independence Day!

If the founding fathers were here right now, I'm afraid they would be labeled as terrorists. History is going to repeat itself, I guess. It looks like we are going to lose our independence again and have to gain it back. But will we be able too. The people have changed so much. When we have Catholics that advocate late term abortion and proclaim Dr. Tiller a hero, do we stand a chance. When the majority of the population detests Christians, do we have a chance. This scenario is building up to make the Holocaust pale in comparison. I pray I'm wrong, but I'm too old to start over again and I've lost so much this last year and I'm not just talking money or material things. I will keep praying though. You do great articles. Keep them coming. It helps people like me to keep the faith!

Thank you very much for your kind words, and I will keep them coming.

Alot of things going on are very depressing, but I have the hope and belief that a vast majority of Americans are not communists or socialists but rather uninformed and apathetic. It is up to you and I and everyone else to educate everyone we can or at least plant the seeds in their minds of what is going on in Washington and to rip away their bliss in ignorance. Americans just need a fire lit underneath them and we have the matches and the wood.

freedom? When you're subjected to roadside checks in your own country in so called constitution free zones, I'd hardly call that freedom. Thankfully the whole world doesn't have delusions of grandeur. I celebrate Canada Day, Independence day means nothing to me. I wish people would wake up and smell the bs. It's too bad that your country's ideologies are infecting mine as of late though.

Constitution free zones?? What country has that? Canada Day is fine if you are Canadian, I am American and even though you might think it arrogant to say that Independence Day should be a world holiday, I believe you know that I am right about it's impact. It's no secret that because of that day the US is as grand as it is. Canadians chose to stay with the crown and the crown left. You talk about my country's ideologies moving north, I am worried about yours moving south. I guess amalgamation is out of the question huh?

Hmmm! What the heck is a constitutional free zone anyway? You say our ideologies are infecting Canada? Which ideologies are you referring? Are you talking about the ones this country was founded on? Where people were free from an oppressive government, that tell it's citizens where they can live, that they have the right to private property ownership. The ideology where the authorities don't tell it's citizens what cars they can drive, and where they can eat? A country that allowed it's people to assemble or protest without the approval of a higher authority. A country where a person could own a firearm without government permission.

Or maybe you are referring to the ideology that has been in the making in the United States for several years? One that says what kind of light bulbs you can have in your house, or how much money you are allowed to earn. Maybe you desire our current government that has put a value on human life. (Currently at 6.8 million US Dollars according to a Jul 08 EPA report). Or maybe you are referring to the ideology that some states have that will tell one of it's citizens that it wont provide needed medication, but instead would provided information on assisted suicide. Or maybe the ideology that says even though you have paid for your home and the property it sits on,it belongs to a local, state or federal government agency

I'm sorry my Canadian neighbor, but I think I would prefer the ideology that our founders, as imperfect as they were, laid out in front of us

your constitution free zones, the border, 100 miles in or so, where your rights don't apply. Where have you been the last 8 years? Patriot ACT, ever growing government controls, freedom? LOL. The US is as grand as it is? What? What is so grand about it, the fact that you can own a gun? Umm, you need a permit for that, but I thought your constitution said you can have it, doesn't mention anything about a permit. As far as Canadian ideologies heading south, I believe you're probably referring to universal health care? Other than the ridiculous wait times, I'd say it isn't a bad thing, but it wasn't always this way.

Are you free from an oppressive government? I mean ya'll are running around afraid of the spook under your bed and the word terrorist justifies the means for them to take whatever rights you have away. It's happening here, terrorist seems to be the word of the decade and our government is acting like the US, but its understandable, our puppet government has only US interests at heart anyhow. You own nothing but the dream of freedom that was taken away ages ago. I don't expect any of this to sink in because your patriotism has blinded you to the core. Nothing wrong with being patriotic but come on...are you really free?

You do have some valid points. Our government is way too big and oppressive but to say it is more free in Canada is a stretch I believe. I think we are both on the same page as to how government should be pared down alot from what it is in both countries. I have never heard of Constitution free zones. That is just not legal. The people living in those zones would be filing law suits galore if that were the case. It's just not happening. That would never be allowed. I think you are hearing rumor or someone is pulling your leg. Border security close to the border is alot more prevalent since the guy that tried to cross over from Canada and blow up LAX and of course 9/11/2001 made security tighter, but no one lost their freedoms because of it, except foreigners. We are not running around like spooks are under the bed. 3000 people were killed in one of our cities so therefore we are still on a terrorist war footing. It would be same if it happened in Toronto. Also if you are angry at your government, change it! We are trying to the same here.

Star, I think you and I agree with many things here. The United States is not a country with the freedoms we once had in past history, and it frustrates me. We are not free from an oppressive government. And it get worse by the day. Much of what we do in our daily lives we must have permission from our governments.

Our constitution gives the federal government limited powers. These things include things like maintaining a military, Providing a common defense, establishing treaties with foreign governments, collect tariffs and taxes for the purpose of paying debts, as well as a few other things like print money. Everything else is delegated to the states. That's why some states have laws that don't apply to other states.

But our federal government continues to ignore the constitution. Some within our government want to change the constitution to give the federal government more power over it's citizens. They are also trying to take power granted by the constitution away from the states.

Anyway Star. I don't think we are too far apart on our thinking of freedom and liberties. I believe we may have a bigger disagreement when it comes to health care but we'll leave that for another day
